Kernl 0.2.5: LM Studio Found on Its Own, With the Real Context Window

Kernl's Archives module showing sources with institutional provenance such as Library of Congress and Europeana

If you want to run Kernl against a local model, this release removes the tedious part: hand-configuring an endpoint that is already there.

LM Studio, with no configuration

Kernl finds LM Studio on its own. Not just the server, either: also the model it has loaded, and that model's real context window.

The context window is the piece that usually goes missing. When it's assumed rather than read, runs get cut in half with no visible reason, or half the window goes unused out of caution. Reading it from the model that is actually loaded avoids both.

Discover, by shelf

Discover now has a shelf for extensions and one for skills, instead of mixing them into a single list. And community SKILL.md files are read the way their authors wrote them, without reinterpretation.

Settings gains an About section with an update check.

A more legible office

Agents walk through doorways rather than walls, and each one carries a single label in the office. With several agents working at once, duplicate labels turned the view into noise.

Fixes

  • A provider's design was being reported as a fault.
  • Archive.org originals are preferred over the lower-quality Theora derivative.
  • The music player is called by the product's name.
