Kernl

Update and uninstall

Your data and license are separate from the program. Updating keeps them. Uninstalling keeps them too, unless you delete them yourself.

Update Kernl

Run the installer again, or install the new package over the old one. Either way you get the latest release.

macOS and Windows steps come from Kernl's packaging; the Kernl team has not run them on those systems yet.

macOS and Linux:

curl -fsSL https://lifekernl.com/install.sh | sh

Windows:

irm https://lifekernl.com/install.ps1 | iex

Or download the latest package from Install Kernl.

With Docker, pull the new code and rebuild, from the Kernl folder. These are the same steps the installer uses (not run by us as an update):

git pull
docker compose up -d --build

After an update, restart the service on Linux if it does not restart itself (not run by us):

systemctl --user restart kernl

Uninstall on Linux

Packages, as printed by the installer (not run by us):

sudo apt remove kernl
sudo dnf remove kernl

Use the line for your system. Tarball, also as printed by the installer:

rm -rf ~/.local/opt/kernl ~/.local/bin/kernl

Uninstall on macOS

There is no uninstaller. Delete the app. macOS and Windows steps come from Kernl's packaging; the Kernl team has not run them on those systems yet.

rm -rf /Applications/Kernl.app

Uninstall on Windows

macOS and Windows steps come from Kernl's packaging; the Kernl team has not run them on those systems yet. If you used the .msi, open Settings, then Apps, find Kernl and uninstall it. If you used the zip, delete its folder.

Uninstall with Docker

docker compose down

This stops and removes the containers. The data stays in Docker volumes. Add -v only if you want to delete the data too.

What stays behind

Removing the program does not remove your data. To delete everything, remove these folders yourself. Back up the token and encryption key first if you may reinstall.

  • Linux: ~/.local/share/kernl and ~/.config/kernl (config and license)
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Kernl, and ~/.config/kernl for the license
  • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Kernl, %APPDATA%\Kernl, and %USERPROFILE%\.config\kernl for the license
